Mark began with a grown man, Luke begins the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Shepherds were in a field guarding their flocks when an angel appeared. The angel said, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Anointed One of Yahweh.” And then a multitude of the heavenly host joined the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, on the earth SHALOM, in men acceptance.” Your English translations do not say that – and it is one of the most important clues about the Jesus movement in the Bible! The witnesses, laying their coats at the feet of Saul, were the men that would cast the first stones at Stephen in Acts 7. Why did they all lay their coats at Saul’s feet?
