  From the Pharisees, a new body of authority emerged – the rabbis . In the eyes of the Romans, there were only two surviving Jewish sects after they destroyed the Temple in 70 CE -- the Pharisees and the Jesus Movement (Paul was viewed as part of it) .   There was a decades long gap, between the time Jesus taught and the appearance of Paul’s writings. Then there was another decades-long gap before writings with the teachings of Jesus appeared.
